New Honda Insight hybrid arrives in spring 2009
A new Honda Insight goes on sale in the U.S. next spring with a price that Honda promises will be at a “price significantly below hybrids available today.” With the current Civic Hybrid priced at $23,550, we think “significant” should be below the $20,000 price break. Meanwhile, Honda is content to let us speculate.
Honda will give a hint of what the production Insight will look like, however, at the 2008 Paris International Auto Show, October 2, and released the advance view of a car that looks close-to-production. The new Insight will be a four-door five-passenger hatchback with a distinctive aerodynamic I’m-a-hybrid design. It’s also what Honda calls an “all-new purpose-built” vehicle, which means it won’t be a warmed-over rebodied Civic.
Honda credits advances in its Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system with allowing the new Insight to be produced at a lower cost. Honda’s IMA is a “mild hybrid,” meaning it uses an electric motor to supplement acceleration of a car with a smaller engine that gets better gas mileage at cruise, providing a better overall fuel economy.
Owner ( zeroyonracing ) says:
"I have said before that I’m not going to go crazy with my wife’s Honda Jazz, as it’s going to be a daily driver car. Heck, I can’t help my itchy hand but to modify it some more. ;p"
"I have since added lower lips all around, modified the rear bumper completely, installed my own brand ZYR Racing seats, Veilside steering wheel, Clarion TV, DVD Player, custom boom box, 2 Zapco Power Amplifiers, Pioneer Center Channel speaker, Racing Pedals, Carbonfiber Valve Cover and Top Fuel Carbonfiber Air Intake. Enjoy the pics and please leave me some message, as what you think about my car and what else I should do to make it better. =) Cheers"
Though fuel prices have gone down a bit over the past few weeks, it seems “fuelish” that consumers would go back to their big SUV, gas-guzzling ways. If you need utility for five in a great, small package, you should strongly consider the 2009 Honda Fit (known as Honda Jazz).
The Fit is now in its second generation, and the 2009 model is all-new. The new Fit features a “super-forward” design that pushes the wheels out to the corners, offering a spacious interior that belies its diminutive exterior dimensions. A new larger windshield and large front quarter windows ensure a clear, unobstructed view to the front. Side and rear views are also very good - a safety feature sometimes overlooked by consumers on ten-minute test drives.
It should also be noted that despite Fit’s small size, it is a very safe platform. The introduction of Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure contributes to enhanced safety and is combined with improvements to body rigidity for crisp handling and a surprisingly quiet and comfortable ride. Expect high marks for Fit in U.S. Government and insurance industry crash testing.

Honda Jazz
The Honda Jazz nameplate has been used by Honda of Japan to denote several different cars since 1982.
- European-market name for the Honda City Mk I from 1982 to 1986, as City was already trademarked by Opel.
- Japanese-market name for the badge-engineered version of the Isuzu Mysterious Utility (MU), known around the world as the Opel Frontera, Holden Frontera, or Isuzu Amigo.
However, more recently it has been used for a five-door hatchback automobile first introduced in June 2001. The vehicle is known as the Fit in Japan and China, as well as in both North and South America. It is called the Jazz in Europe, Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, and Africa. (For the sake of consistency, the vehicle is referred to as the “Jazz” in this article, except in areas where the use of the term “Fit” is more appropriate.)
Although the Jazz is now one of Honda’s global models, it experienced a very slow progression as it made its way around the world. The car first debuted in June 2001 in Japan. It was then introduced to Europe (early 2002), Australia (late 2002), Brazil and South America (early 2003), Thailand and South-East Asia (late 2003), China (mid 2004), and Mexico (late 2005). A production model for the United States and Canadian markets debuted on January 8, 2006 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The car will be released in the US and Canada in April 2006. Unlike most Honda models, which traditionally have 4 or 5-year model cycles, the current generation Jazz will remain around for a longer period of time thanks to the late release in North America.
Model(s)
The Jazz is sold in 5 variations. All Jazz or Fit models throughout the world utilize one of these 5 distinct codes. They are found in the vehicle’s identification number (VIN):
- GD1: 1.3L L13A engine 2WD
- GD2: 1.3L L13A engine 4WD (Japan only)
- GD3: 1.5L L15A engine 2WD
- GD4: 1.5L L15A engine 4WD (Japan only)
- GD5: 1.2L L12A engine 2WD (Europe only)
